How would you like to get married in a medieval-style castle — right here in Maryland?
At The Cloisters, you can.
Decorated with real medieval artifacts, this Gothic manor house was built in the early 1930s by a pair of devoted history lovers, Sumner and Drudea Parker. Meticulously planned down to every detail, The Cloisters is a work of art on its own.
A wedding at The Cloisters is the place to go full Lord of the Rings, full Harry Potter, full Disney, full YOU!
Cue the Photographer!
Photographer Sarah Wockenfuss is no stranger to this historic Baltimore wedding venue. She’s shot plenty of weddings there, exploring all the nooks and crannies of this unique space.
"Cloisters Castle is a one of a kind venue in Baltimore,” she says. “I love that the castle is tucked away in the woods, but yet only minutes from Baltimore City! The architecture makes for extremely unique photos. My favorite part of the castle is the spiral staircase that climbs from the basement all the way to the top floor! Other beautiful areas to be noted are the windmill, courtyard and library. The castle truly is a playground for photographers. If you want a venue that will be sure to ‘wow’ your guests, look no further. The staff are also extremely supportive in making your wedding day dreams come true!"
Sarah brings the bride and groom’s fairytale to life with her dreamy photography. She’s been a WeddingWire Couples’ Choice photographer for the past four years!
Weddings at The Cloisters
This Baltimore wedding venue is the perfect place to put your special stamp on your special day. Nothing is out of place here, whether you want a traditional affair or an excuse to declare your love for your particular fandom.
Is Disney your thing? Lean into it. At Jayne and Nathan’s wedding, the red-haired bride was like a gorgeous tattooed Princess Ariel (after getting legs). The golden woods around the castle made a stunning backdrop for their wedding photos by Sarah.
Katie and Joey’s wedding had Harry Potter elements, a romantic handmade chuppah, and lanterns in place of bouquets. Every picture is full of love and beaming smiles. And Vicki and Matt’s big day was for the birds. Actual birds. There was a hawk involved!
About the Venue
Weddings at The Cloisters can accommodate up to 150 guests. There’s a romantic ceremony location outside in the cloistered garden. And wedding parties should definitely take advantage of the grounds for the many photo ops. The surrounding woods, wild gardens, and the house itself all make dramatic backdrops for portraits and group photos.
Inside, there’s a reception room with traditional gothic arches for a little historical realism. And make sure to get a few pictures in that one-of-a-kind spiral staircase.
A visit to The Cloisters is like stepping into another time — even though it’s located in Lutherville, just 20 minutes northwest of downtown Baltimore.
If you’re planning your fairytale wedding at The Cloisters, let us know! There’s plenty of room for a DJ booth inside.
