Why do winery weddings get all the love? If you ask us, it’s high time that brewery weddings get some much needed attention.

Maryland couple Rebekka and John had their July micro wedding at Idiom Brewing Company in Frederick. This beautiful brick brewery in Carroll Creek Linear Park was the perfect spot for a sunny summer wedding — and the brews certainly didn’t hurt. Located right on Carroll Creek, the space has a riverwalk vibe that takes advantage of the historic architecture and waterside views.

After a church service nearby, the party arrived at the brewery for their celebration, where Frederick photographer Brittany Defrehn caught the magic of Rebekka and John’s day.

Each bridal party “couple” was introduced to their own individual song, which was a fun way to show off their personalities. Intro songs included Sexy and I Know It, Bring ‘Em Out, and Raise Your Glass

Then it was time to introduce the newly married couple! They entered the brewery to Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love, and then slowed things down for their first dance to Dan + Shay’s My Side of the Fence.

Rebekka and John went with a timeline that scheduled the “formal” reception events early. The benefit to this type of schedule is that once the events are complete, the party is free to continue with few interruptions for speeches or dances.

So after the couple’s first dance, they went right into the parent dances. Rebekka and her father danced to I Loved Her First by Heartland, and John and his mom danced to My Wish by Rascal Flatts.

After the speeches, it was time to open up the evening to dinner, dancing, photo booth, and beer! The event was lovely but low key, with guests getting food from the on-site food truck, and washing it down with the brewery’s pilsners, IPAs, and sours.

Rebekka and John rented a touchless photo booth from Maryland’s DJ, which lets guests take fun photos without contact. Guests could download their photos right to their phones by scanning the QR code on the photo booth itself.

Later in the evening, Rebekka and John played The Shoe Game. The couple sits in chairs placed back to back, and each holds their shoe in one hand and their spouse’s shoe in the other. Then they get asked questions like, “Who is the pickier eater?” or “Who has the crazier family?” Each person lifts up the shoe of the person they think best fits the question. It’s a fun way to see if the couple is on the same page!

When the night came to a close, Rebekka and John enjoyed a final dance to This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole, before their send off under sparklers and streamers.

We had a great time being part of Rebekka and John’s Idiom Brewing wedding. It was a much-needed reminder that even during these crazy times, there are celebrations to be had!
