Introducing Josh, also known as JBY Sax, a dynamic saxophonist hailing from Glenarden, MD. With a unique blend of talents and interests, Josh’s journey from a professional football athlete to a celebrated musician is as captivating as his performances.
Josh has been playing the saxophone for about 13 years, a journey that began with a strong foundation in singing. Initially a vocalist, Josh’s father suggested that the saxophone might enhance his vocal abilities. Taking this advice to heart, Josh embraced the saxophone and discovered a new passion that would shape his career. His musical education spans from Flowers High School to West Virginia Wesleyan College and Salisbury University, where he majored in Exercise Science and minored in Music.

Today, Josh thrives as JBY Sax, blending his love for music with his professional background in sports. Known for his engaging performances, he specializes in creating memorable experiences for guests, ensuring every event is filled with joy and excitement. His dedication to entertaining and connecting with audiences is evident in every show, whether he’s playing at a local venue or a grand wedding.
One of Josh’s favorite aspects of his job is performing at weddings. He appreciates the structure and the celebration of love that these events represent. Being a part of such significant moments in people’s lives is deeply meaningful to him. While he acknowledges that "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran is perhaps the most overplayed wedding song, he still enjoys being part of these special celebrations.
When he’s not performing, Josh enjoys a diverse range of music, including R&B, contemporary, jazz, Afrobeat, and Amapiano. This eclectic taste influences his performances and keeps his music fresh and engaging.

What’s your favorite local wedding venue and why?
“Kahler Hall because the space is pretty easy to set up and has a good ambiance.”

What’s one thing you wish people knew about working as a performer?
“It is not easy to read the crowd and have a song that everyone likes because everyone is different and may have different tastes in music.”
