The boho simplicity of Kerry and Jake’s waterfront woodland wedding was too good. The bride looked like a glowing forest goddess. The groom was beaming all day. It was a total beauty from start to finish!
This wasn’t our first time on Kent Island. We’ve been to Chesapeake Bay Beach Club many times, which is a favorite venue for several of our DJs. But this was our first time at the newly revamped Kent Island Resort, and we’re happy to report—it’s a stunner. Mature forests, waterfront sites, a historic manor house, and a new timber barn are scattered throughout the 240-acre property, giving couples tons of options for their day.
Kerry and Jake opted to hold their wedding ceremony in a beautiful wooded area on the site. The parents and grandparents made their entrance to All You Need is Love by The Beatles, followed by the wedding party to Marry Me by Train. Then Kerry made her entrance across the forest floor to a piano and string version of Mendelssohn’s famous Wedding March.
The couple said their vows in front of a geometric arch festooned with white roses and eucalyptus. The husband-and-wife photography duo from Kemp Collective brought the perfect amount of light to this rustic-chic wedding—not too bright, not too dark. (Kemp Collective also did Kerry and Jake’s engagement shoot—it’s adorable.)
After the ceremony, the beaming couple made their way back down the aisle to Come and Get Your Love by Redbone. As a former bride who also chose Come and Get Your Love for her own wedding recessional, this writer has to commend the couple on their excellent taste.
After cocktail hour in the Garden House, the 150 guests headed into the tented pavilion for party time. As a permanent tented structure, this lovely space has timber framing and a wooden floor. It’s draped with flowy white fabric and has hard-wired chandeliers for a classy space that perfectly suits the wooded surroundings.
Instead of choosing a single song for the wedding party introductions, Kerry and Jake let each “couple” dance their way into the tent to a 20-30 second clip of a different song. We had couples sashaying to La Romana by Bad Bunny, Raise Up by Petey Pablo, Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon, and So Fresh, So Clean by Outkast, among others. Maryland wedding DJ Mike Q made sure each song was cued up and ready to go!
Finally, Kerry and Jake made their grand entrance as husband and wife to I Look Good Today by O.T. Genasis. And they did!
Kerry and Jake arranged their wedding reception so they had over two full hours of uninterrupted dance time. “Their guests didn’t disappoint on the dance floor and it was amazing to play for such a high-energy crowd,” says DJ Mike Q.
For the last song of the night, they requested Shout by The Isley Brothers, which never leaves the dance floor empty. Then Kerry and Jake enjoyed a streamer send-off to usher them into wedding bliss. So dreamy.
It was such a treat to be part of this gorgeous boho wedding day. Kerry and Jake just have that look…we know they’re in it for the long haul.
