Meet DJ Thiery, whose journey from Columbia, MD, to becoming a prominent DJ is a blend of unique experiences and passions. With 13 years in the industry, Thiery’s story is a testament to following one's passion and embracing diverse interests.

DJ Thiery hails from Columbia, MD, where he first began to nurture his love for music. He attended Marriotts Ridge High School, where his initial musical interests were cultivated. Following high school, Thiery pursued higher education at New Mexico State University.

Before stepping into the world of DJing, Thiery explored various careers. He worked as a carpenter, a profession that honed his attention to detail and craftsmanship. Additionally, Thiery indulged in building motorcycles, showcasing his mechanical skills and creativity. His passion for music always remained a central focus.

Thiery’s journey into DJing began serendipitously. After a memorable karaoke night, he was offered a job as a DJ. This opportunity marked the beginning of his 13-year career in the industry. For Thiery, DJing became a natural extension of his love for music and a way to channel his creativity.

Musical Education and Philosophy

Thiery’s musical education is rooted in his high school experience, with additional knowledge gained from college. His approach to DJing is deeply respectful of music history and culture. “A great DJ,” he explains, “is someone who respects the history and culture of music by truly mixing and mastering a flow that keeps people on the dance floor, and who does it for the love of it.”

One of Thiery’s favorite aspects of being a wedding DJ is witnessing the joy of couples and their guests. “Seeing the couples enjoying themselves with all of their guests is what makes weddings special for me,” he says. His ability to create a fun and engaging atmosphere is evident in his unique choices, such as playing the “Jurassic Park” theme as a processional song.

Conversely, Thiery finds “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts to be one of the most overplayed wedding songs, preferring to offer something fresh and distinctive.

Outside the DJ Booth

When he’s not DJing, Thiery enjoys listening to music featured on Boiler Room, a platform known for its diverse and eclectic musical performances. His musical taste reflects his desire for authenticity and innovation.

If Thiery were to get married this weekend, his first dance song would be the cover of “So Into You” by Donald Glover, highlighting his appreciation for contemporary and soulful music.

Thiery is happily married and shares his life with his spouse and family. He enjoys spending time engaging in carpentry and motorcycle building, activities that complement his creativity.

DJ Thiery’s journey from Columbia, MD, to a successful DJ career is a compelling story of passion, creativity, and adaptability. Thiery brings a unique perspective to the DJ booth. His dedication to creating memorable experiences and his diverse interests make him a standout in the wedding industry.
